Dracula

Tonight Dr. Kungl and I held a book discussion on Bram Stoker's Dracula. I think it went well, a good number of people showed up and the discussion was interesting. I never thought I would be the type of person who would like a book such as Dracula, but I think it is deeper than the stigmatized pop culture version of it. There was more than fish net stockings and sharp blood sucking teeth. Actually, the women in the story were portrayed more as innocent virgin type beings rather than the sexualized vampiresses we associate with Dracula today. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Stoker doesn't objectify women in the novel, but at least it doesn't make you feel dirty after reading it, as I'm sure some the movies based on it would.

The 3 slutty vampire women weren't innocent...far from it

  2. I meant Mina and Lucy. Well, at least Lucy at the begining. Plus the 3 vampire women didn't have that big of a part in the novel.
