Ho Ho Ho, Santa is coming. or maybe he was already here. Oh and Rudolph too.
I still enjoy the thought of setting out the cookies and milk (and carrots) and then laugh when I think about my poor dad having to eat all that stuff before I wake up. Ha ha ha.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Oh noooo, I'm a horrible blogger. Moonlight Masquerade had it's two year birthday a few weeks ago and I completely forgot. I'm sorry blog. I still love you. Here is a cake for you. Happy Birthday!
...only 8 days too late

I was browsing my old Yahoo account because I noticed that my info said that I was still 14 years old and in changing that, I stumbled upon my old website that I had created in seventh grade. It is soooo funny. The graphics are just horrible and my design skills combined with the html that I taught myself is indeed comical. I viewed the guestbook and someone wrote a mean comment about how awful it is, but hey, I can't disagree. I can't even log back in to Angelfire to even delete the site because I don't remember my password and my old email account is obselete.
I think the most interesting part is how much I have changed in the past 8 years. I wonder if people just change that dramatically over their teenage years or if it is constant metamorphasis? Will I look back on this blog in 8 years and say, man I was an idiot? Probably, yes for three specific reasons.
A. Hopefully I'll be smarter
B. My views will probably change or at least shift as I experience and learn more
C. My different life stage will give me a different outlook on life.
Perhaps we don't even change at all, maybe we just shift our perspectives of ourselves and that is why we appear so different. Actually it is kind of nice to have a documentation of your state of being at every stage in your life. (a perk of journaling, ha ha) But, then there is the whole issue that it continues to represent you to the whole world even 10 years after you write it since it is in a public forum, even if that doesn't accurately convey the skills, attitudes, interests, and values that you have at the current moment.

because he is not funny.
Not only is Borat making fun of Americans (especially the morons that laugh at his stupid, not funny jokes), but also every foreign-based ethnic group that ever existed. I think somebody should pack him up in a nondescript white van and drive away with him. He is a sore on the face of free speech and democratic institutions. It amazes me how many otherwise nice and intelligent Americans approve of his work, let alone applaud it. Borat is a shining example of the distasteful degredation of society through popular culture.

Then these slippers I got at the Dunnes Store in Spain since they NEVER go without shoes. You don't realize how annoying it is to always have something on your feet until you have to do it for 4 months. As the sloppy American that I am, I like slinging off my shoes after a long day. At least I had something adorable on my feet to make up for it.

Ok, so these aren't shoes, but close enough. These are really cute purple slippers that I got from a Delia's catalogue awhile ago. They are soooooooooo comfortable, like walking on tiny mattresses.

Today you can see the very cute shoes that I bought in Morocco. I had wanted other ones, but since our tour guide wouldn't let us just stop in whatever shop we wanted, and I had tons of dirhams left, I just bought these cuties before getting on the ferry to go back to Spain. Only I had to keep on going back to the guy at the store like 3 times because he kept on giving me a pair of shoes that weren't matched. I would take the next pair with me, and then think, oh gee, I should try these on, and then I realized the one shoe is 3 sizes bigger or the wrong design and would be like, shoot, and back to too-friendly guy again. I like the smell of these, they definitely have that leathery smell going on, but the strange thing is that they are not made for the right or left foot. The are uni-foot (as I shall call it), they fit either the R or L. I like the color of these, they match khaki very well.
Isn't shoe week fun?

I got these boots/shoes because Melissa convinced me they were cool, and now I love them. At first I didn't think they would be something I would wear, but then I saw just how cute they could be with capris or pants rolled up 2 or 3 times. The best thing was that I found them in Malaga for only 10 euros after Melissa had just bought similar ones for a whole lot more a couple days earlier, bahahahaha. I revel in my European HoyVoy skaterish boots, even if I don't wear them much here.

Today I show you the awesome gold wedges that I just got from Old Navy. Aren't they just adorable? I absolutely love the gold ribbons that tie. Awwww. These may be newest favorites. hmmmmm. we shall see.
This week, I am going to bore all my wonderful blog readers with a showcase of my recent shoe acquisitions.

So over vacation I was trying to knit a scarf. I found this great bright pink yarn with tassly things and I thought, oh boy, I'll have a pretty handmade scarf to wear in no time. Well, I was wrong.
A. Knitting takes FOREVER I probably already logged 12 hours into my rectangle that still is only 5 inches long
B. Knitting needles slip. I finished a row and bam, the needle slipped out and when I tried to put the loops back on it was impossible. Once they come off they are impossible to put back on. I know have 6 GIANT holes in my scarf because of this.
C. The yarn for one scarf is about the same price of buying 2 fully made scarves online, without out all the slave labor
D. I hate it and it isn't worth it.
I am going to finish my crappy scarf and then never again. Knitting is the most mind numbing task I have ever done.

Two months ago I read this horrible awful book that made me feel horrible and awful. It is called Marianela, by Galdos. It is supposed to be a classic of Spanish literature so i read it (in Spanish I might add--yay me), but it was just the worst story ever. (Ok not as creepy as American Psycho by Ellis that I read over the summer, but rather just sad)
So Marianela is an unattractive girl that has a blind friend, Pablo, with whom she shares a mutual love. A doctor comes and fixes Pablo's sight, and the little girl in everyone, wants the story to have a fairytale ending in which the two get married and live happily ever after. Well, they don't. It may be expected, but the reader is jolted from their peaceful, quiet reading, to an ugly truth about humans. I won't tell you what happens, but don't plan on smiling at the end.

Every time I go to the beach I feed, photograph, and gawk at the seaguls. I think they are smart. If you feed them pretzels, they don't just gobble up the piece of hazardous choking hard sourdough, but rather swoop over to the water and dunk them in the ocean to soften them up. Seaguls are just plain fun to watch. I think it is because they are synonomous with beach for me, and that is why they fascinate me.

I know it has been a rather large chunk of time since I last wrote, but these past few weeks have been CRUNCH time with school. And then for Thanksgiving Vacation we went to Ocean City, Maryland. Surprisingly there were many people there and all the the shops along the boardwalk were open. We stayed in a cool hotel so I got my own room and we had a massive spa tub that I soaked in one night. We went to a magic show Friday night. Thanksgiving we ate at an icecream shop with bad food, but hey, it was the only thing open. I wanted Mexican, but turkey that tasted like elementary school food had to suffice. I'll never understand the whole, use an icecream scooper for mashed potatoes, idea. That just disturbs me. Overall we had a nice relaxing Thanksgiving.

Honors Read 2 for this year was on Tues: The Dew Breaker by Edwidge Danticat. We had a good discussion about the book.
The story/stories are gorgeous puzzle. I thought the book was a beautiful interlocking tale that keeps you guessing at how each individual interconnects. The Dew Breaker is a torturer from Haiti who moves to the New York and the novel follows the lives of many who have been directly or indirectly affected by him. Trying weed through that tangled mess is both fun and frustrating. I would recommend this read!

I have great friends! (even if emily wouldn't tell me where we were going) On Saturday they took me to a cool Hibachi restaurant in Hagerstown. So, in case you don't know, hibachi is the Japanese manner of cooking the food right in front of you. I had soooooo much fun. People were ohhhing and ahhing and the chef was throwing food in the air. I got shrimp and I ate WAY too much. And then, since it was my 21st birthday, they brought me a piece of cake and beat on drums and such. Awwww, what good friends I have.

We were talking about "Dreamtigers" today by Borges (which is probably my new most favorite short short story) and Dr. Libertin definitely won the quote of the day contest. Her words came out something like, "How would you feel if you reached your ideal? Suicidal, I hope." Man, that just sounds so cruel...

Woman in 'Shakira Shaking' Contest Sues" says a headline in the CBS News. This makes me laugh. That woman would had better NOT win her lawsuit.
A. She was probably drinking way too much.
B. How is it the bar's fault that she fell?
C. How much was she shanking her hips to literally throw herself off the bar, onto the floor, and tear ligaments in her knee?
The suing craze in America is ridiculous. Soon the woman will be blaming Shakira for shaking her hips in the first place.

I wrote this really cool poem about flamenco and I showed it to my dad, who then gave it to his friend that he works with in Maryland. This guy is like a musical genious and he is going to make a flamenco song out of my words. I can't wait to hear what it sounds like. I would post the poem but I am trying to get it published that would probably be unwise to do until after then. Anyway, lately I have really started liking the beatiful passionate gypsy music of Spain which is a far cry from what I would normally like. It makes me feel free and alive. I remember we went to see a flamenco ballet in Malaga but all that remember was our nose-bleed bench seats and the load of leaves that they released onto the stage and thinking about how they were going to clean up all those little leaves later.

Did you go vote today? I should hope so (if you are from the USA).
I voted straight ticket this time. That saved myself from filling in the little dots the old fashioned way, since I all the candidates I wanted were from the same party anyway.
I went right before my 11:00 class but there was line that I wasn't expecting so I ended up being a little late for my class (as usual). But the woman behind me was like, oh you shouldn't be missing school. And then people were like are you old enough to vote? YEssssss, for goodness sakes people. I'm tired of people thinking I am 15.
And on that note. I am 21 now. I can do anything legally in US that is legal. Yes, profound. Wahoo, happy birthday me.

My new love. Prison Break. It reminds me of the old show, The Fugative.
Man, an hour of convicts trying evade the police, bounty hunters, and dirty FBI agents is nerve racking. I am always on edge after watching it. Sadly enough I have my Pirates class during its airtime so i just watch it on tape after I get home, which also adds to my tiredness the next day.
Anyway how can you not love prison break? The strange thing is that you are on the bad guys' side.... or maybe the good guys, hmmmmm, nevertheless Teabag is creepy and I want him to get caught.
And of course: Did I mention that Wentworth Miller is hot? yeah, he is.

My mom made these things that she baked in muffin tins. Only they were biscuits with barbeque in them. They looked so funny, probably because I kept thinking meat cupcakes, mmmm? Actually, they weren't bad tasting. I would eat them again, just the meaty presence in small cupcake like structures disturbs me.

I love Malcolm in the Middle. Ahhh, satirizing the lower middle class. Soooooo funny. They play reruns on Fox at 1 AM right after reruns of Sex and the City. The dynamics of their family make me roll on the floor in laughter.
One of my favorite lines was when the father was encouraging his son not lie after he had, by saying, "Dewy, I only lied to get prescription drugs."
I think the reason I like the show so much is because of its ironic sarcastic humor. It is right up my alley. ha haa ha.

Buzz Aldrin came to Shippensburg tonight to speak about: "The Apollo Dream"
I think that he was advocating the privatization of space exploration. He talked about private sectors supporting space tourism with reusable shuttles and lottery systems to allow normal citizens a chance to go into space.
I personally think all space exploration should be handed off into the private sector, not only because it would speed the rate of space travel advancements, but also stop federal funding of NASA that I am paying taxes for. It's not that I don't like shelling out dollars for the advancement of science, because I do recognize that NASA has made the US a powerful country and it also has been the vanguard in other scientific endeavors. On the whole and whole I think that too much money is being drained into a program that isn't showing us any results. For goodness sakes, it's been 3 years since the last mission, 2 have failed within the past 30 years, and they still hope to Mars even with such a bad recent track record.
Emily made a good point while we were listening to Dr. Buzz, how many times has he had to tell that story? Does he ever get sick of "and then I stepped onto the moon..."
Note: I did point out to her that he gets buckets full of money to tell that story over and over again, so you can't really feel bad for the guy.

I wasn't lying when I said I was obsessed with these green things. I just haven't figured out what they are yet.

I was driving home for classes on Friday and I was blew away by the beauty of the sky. I said. Hmmmmm, I should get my camera. So I went home, changed into a sweatshirt, grabbed my camera and decided to go for a drive. I stopped at this little place off a less busier road than my own and started walking toward this little abandoned shack and wooden buildings that said photograph of year all over them. But then I saw the sign: No Tresspassing. Darn. I got back in my car and scoped out a new place to take photos, somewhere where no one would come after me with a hunting dog and rifle.
My question is what on earth are these things? They were everywhere. I was fascinated by them. I photographed about 40 pictures of them. I love their texture, and color, and shape. I loved them so much and the curiosity was so great that took one, put it on a stone and then I jumped on it. They are much tougher than you may think. I wanted to see what was on the inside. A bunch of sticky stuff came out and green stringying things. These are definitely my new fascination.

Cool spider web outside my house; taken last week, before the freezing temperatures sent him scrawling, or at best dying.
And then the one sad lonely pink rose in our second rate garden, if it can even be called that (as in a place where plants live).

The classical Steinbeck. He is one of my favorite authors. I attended a book discussion on Of Mice and Men last Thursday. We had a lively discussion about each of the characters and the ethical implications of the novel. I still say that George turned bad and killed Lennie not out of necessity but out of selfishness. He was sick of the cycle. He had finally made friends. Lennie never did anything bad out of malicious intent. He had a child-like innocence. The death of curley's wife was no different than him accidently killing the little mice and puppy. If Lennie hadn't been so focused in on how George wouldn't let him take care of the rabbits, then he wouldn't have panicked and done bad things in the first place. George's sins seems to get everyone in trouble. Why was Lennie the one who had to pay for them?

Stupid thing I did today?
I called my sister but she didn't answer so I left a message that she should call me back. Half an hour later the phones rings and my dad tells me it is for me. I go running for the phone but I am yelling, NOOOOO WHY DID SHE CALL ME NOW. I WAS WATCHING GREY'S ANATOMY. *prolonged* NOOOOOOOO. Then I pick up the phone and am like "hello."
It wasn't my sister. It was a lady from church. I know she could hear me. I felt stupid.

Sorry, my mouse hasn't been working. But on the bright side, I've gotten really good at the stone age keyboard commands. Buy anyways,
Think iPod is clever? So are the spoofs.
