Bright, Bright Sunshiny Day

Sunflowers waving in the wind. I am shocked at how tall those things get. How is it possible that stalks could get that high without toppling over? I am just amazed. What keeps sunflowers from drooping down?? They seem so top heavy.

I believe that sunflowers equal smiles. They take you away to a fun sunshiny place. They make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. They mean sunny days, water sprinklers, iced-lemonade, and the smell of freshly cut grass. Sunflowers just make you happy; that is, of course, unless you are crazy. Although, crazy people probably like sunflowers too.

Backyard Beauty

When I looked out the window yesterday, I was struck by how pretty it is outside. I think we take for granted how spectacular everyday things are.

I didn't realize it until I truly looked, but the the flowers in my backyard really are beautiful.

Is there is something outside your window that you've been missing out on? It could be almost anything. Another building? A tree? Your neighbor's car? Raindrops? Fog? Blue sky? A bunny? Kids jumping on a trampoline? Another apartment? Clothes on the line? Grass? A busy road? Whatever you see when you look out the window, there is beauty there. Just look.

Sometimes it's easy to forget, but beauty is all around us---even in that which seems ordinary.

Roses Are Not Just Red

I'm started to get an overload of gorgeous flower pictures. It's like this spring and early summer has boasted of a ridiculous amount of natural beauty. Here is a selection of roses in my grandparent's flower bed.

I am staying at my grandparents house this week until our air conditioning gets fixed. I swear, the air went out during a record heat wave for our area. I get the feeling it knew it was going to have to work overtime so it decided to shut down completely. On the plus side though, one hour in my house leads to lovely skin. The sauna-like conditions guarantee it.

Everyone's Got a Mom

Happy Mother's Day!

I am not very good at getting presents. -for holidays. -for birthdays. -for special stuff. I think it is two-thirds bad luck and one-third worrying too much. I decided to go safe for Mother's Day this year and make my mom's present. I made her a ceramic vase with pink glaze, her favorite color. And then I got some faux flowers and arranged them in the vase. At first I got some super-neon-pink flowers, but I realized that they look awful. I took them back to the store and traded them for some more subdued-peachy-pink flowers. They worked much better, and now I think my gift actually works. Hopefully Mom likes it!

Purple Flowers

Finals week this week. Sigh. 1 final down, 3 to go. This pre-graduation time isn't as great as I thought it was going to be. Things seem to be falling apart.

Happy Cinco de Mayo! I didn't even realize that it was May 5th until pretty late in the day. Oh well. I live too far north to celebrate anyway.

Maplewood

GreenhouseYesterday I went to the grand opening of the new greenhouse and produce store in Shippensburg called Maplewood. The family who runs it is Amish. I always see their children in the fields tending to their plants. I don't know whether to feel bad for the kids or not. They seem to like their lifestyle... but goodness, shouldn't they be it school? or playing? or something other than hunching over the fields all day long?

Pink FlowersBut anyway, the new greenhouse was huge! There were hanging baskets everywhere and tons of gorgeous flowers. There was pink and blue and yellow and orange and red and green everywhere you turned! My family bought some plants and delicious homemade bread. The Amish sure do know how to do organic farming and baked goods. I have to give them that.

Roses are Red, Violets are Blue

Look at my beautiful Valentine's roses. They are so gorgeous, they really budded nicely these past few days.

I love them. They smell like purple, he he. I sniff them as I eat my chocolates. Mmmmm.

Oh, and don't forget to check out Post Secret this week. Today's bunch are especially good.

Be Mine ♥

Red RoseHappy Valentine's Day!

This year's Valentine's Day looks to be promising. No drowning my sorrows in cookie dough icecream, sweat pants, a box of tissues, and Matthew Mcconaughey movies. Ha ha.

But I just wanted to take this day to give each of my sexy blog readers a big kiss. So mwah!

You are a beautiful special person.

Lilac Love

purple lilacsMy pappy sent over some lilac branches to sit on our kitchen table. Let me tell you, they smell soooooooo good. Any time I get within a 10 foot radius of the table my nostrils sigh in nostril heaven. The smell of the fresh lilacs is absolutely my favorite smell in the whole world, and besides that, could they be a better color? Awwww, look how pretty they are. Too bad blogs can't transmit smells. I will take an extra whiff just for you.
